She cooks by instinct,
Never following a recipe,
Just adding a bit of this
And a smidgen of that,
Trying new things,
Inventing concoctions
That tantalize the taste buds
And excite the nostrils.
She is a chemist
Of the most basic sort,
Knowing what ingredients to add,
In precisely the right amounts
To bring out the flavor
Of the food she fixes.
She flutters and fusses
About the kitchen
Trying every dish she makes,
Gauging the cooking process,
Adding ingredients as needed,
Approaching perfection
With every dish she serves.
It doesn't matter
Whether she is cooking for one
Or cooking for many,
The process is the same.
She is an artist
With food as her medium
And I am simply
A connoisseur of her art.
