how is it that
someone comes
and shines a
moonbeam into your heart?

but it's only an eclipse

the substance
was given long
ago to another
someone who is radiant

someone loved forever

how is it that
this vision of
woman this goddess
is not complete?

you cannot compete

if only echoes
if only before
or later than
that time you lost

before you even began

And you say I'm the grim one!
This is a beautifully sad poem about FUTILITY (see, I'm getting to ya!)
Well done Severn!

wonderful poem again, Severn. I hope to see much more of your work around here. I liked the arrangement of your poem on the page. It's the sort of thing that inspires me to write a critical essay on it! You know, the mechanics of poetry and how white space isolates a word and magnifies it? Wow, I'd better go away and write a poem on poetry!

Severn: You've beautifully captured that "I never stood a chance, did I?" realization!! Great job!
