The Honest Forum Scale

On a scale, you know, of one to ten,
there issues a challenge from my poison pen.
I now ask the forum judges to view my worst
and perhaps they’ll scale it with a winning “first”.

Of course, “first” is right there, close to zero
thus my poem would be no heartfelt hero,
and if scaled around the middle, something like five,
then I’d have some optimism of keeping my muse alive.

If for some reason, a seven it would gain
why, I’d maybe pick up my poison pen again,
and if it [gasp] should rank a stable eight
well, then, beers on the house, and we’d all celebrate.

But a Masterful Ten? Well, heavens, I never…
for it would take years of debauchery to be that clever.
To master the Masters? Nah, I don’t think that’s for me
I’d rather sit back and muse on their web-oriented reverie.

Dear Sunshine, what you write is fine
Easily rates at least a nine
And your warmth and generosity
Is worth at least a twenty-three!

Ahh, the beers got to Balladeer...from whence the generosity. Hey, 'deer, so much for my challenges...you have yet to respond to my response to your challenge for a riverboat gambler. Probably best you haven't...I think I'll go back and edit it somewhat.

Dear Sunshine, a nine won't do,
If I am to get free home brew.
I'll bid higher than Master Deer,
A 9.2. Now, where's my beer?

erk... Did 'Deer also bid 23?
He's a devil when beer's for free.
I'll match his bid, but not exceed,
'Cause a beer with 'Deer is what I need.

Sunshine, this was adorable. Brought a smile to my face -- I think anyone who is brave enough to write down their thoughts and innermost feelings in poetry deserves a "10". The only thing we should be judging is how well we read it!

I never lie or my nose will grow
so I must in truth tell you
if others say a 9 or 10,
I'll say a forty two!

Forty two minus ten
is thirty two you see
and thirty two minus nine
must be twenty three!

(loved it by the way!)

Oh, geez, now I've got a beer war, or a bidding war, not sure which,
between two greats! What a stitch!

And PdV, I really get a kick when people comment in rhyme! I'd like to see it all the time!

Nochtdraco and Traveler, thank you for your comments. If a faceless webber can make you smile, then it surely made my day worthwhile!

Sunshine I've seen their scores they've given,
What kinda beer? Not Pabst Blue Ribbon?
I think what you wrote is really great,
Somewhere ranking 'bout nine point eight.

Now Balladeer said a twenty three,
LongJohn matched that, so he agreed,
I'll add on another ten,
Now would ya splurge for Heineken?
