*Dedicated to the Special Memories this day holds, and the Special Friend I shared it with*

Gentle prince on foreign shore, stands steady like a soldier
As he waits for love's true kiss
His eyes have seen many a wonder as he traveled his homeland
Hill, dale, meadow and glen
Have all felt his longing gaze
Yet alone he walks through silent land
Destined it seems this way to live
As bagpipes play a mournful note
That echos through his soul
Haunting refrain soothes his heart
As it radiates through the mist

Alone he stands in empty square
With people bustling by
Their voices raised in cheer
His eyes see not the crowd
For his heart is but a lonely desert
His soul a gaping wound

He stands in hesitation, as something captures his gaze
His clear blue glance focuses across the cobbled square
Coppery sparkle fills his view
Sunlight dancing on auburn hair
Her laughter fills the air
Turning as she feels his stare
Her heart skips a beat, as he meets her eye
Oblivious to time or space, his step fast and sure
He pushes past the noisy crowd
Eyes never leaving hers
His eyes blue as a crisp autumn day
Hers so warm and brown
As she absorbs his gentle smile
Seeing a depth neither has ever felt, expressed there in their gaze

He stops

Almost in awe
As she smiles in nervous delight
He knows this is the One
Afraid to touch her or speak a word
Afraid she'll fade away
So fearful that she's just a dream
That he'll miss his one chance

The moment stretches as they both stare
Of the world both so unaware
This Scotsman's heart has found a home
After many long years alone

Speaking not a word
(her breath caught in pause)
As gently, slowly he lifts a hand
Towards her lovely face
Hesitant fingers tangle in shimmering hair
As he revels in her feel
His time wise eyes, so blue and sad
Never wavering from hers
A gentle smile crosses lonely lips
As he folds her in loving grasp
She smiles
Knowing too, that this is what she was waiting for

My first time reading this one and I find myself lost in contemplation of what the future holds for me. Thank you, my friend.
