I had given up hope of love
didn’t think it was meant for me
I’d never had much luck before
so I determined I would remain free.

My friends tried pairing me off
with blind dates that would never click
Many a night I went home alone
feeling feverish and slightly sick

I certainly didn’t think it my fault
that my ideal could never be found
I searched their eyes and all I saw
was eyes of blue or brown.

Sometimes I wondered if ever
I would look and find love there
Sometimes I knew I wouldn’t
so I began not to really care.

I joined all the clubs and groups
spent time in twos or threes
hoping that my aloneness
was not the first thing anyone sees.

One night at a poetry reading,
a reader stood up to recite
poetry that filled me with longing
poetry that showed me the light.

I stayed to meet the speaker
we talked for quite a while
He made me laugh and think and feel
and then he made me smile.

We stood in the pouring rain that night
and my soul soared as light as a feather
We kissed and then I looked up
into the eyes of forever.

Unfortunately, just a dream..........

Ah, here's a conundrum.....if we search for a dream will we be awake when it becomes reality? Thank you for your kind comments.

Never give up hope, my dear.
You have way to much to share with us
as you have reminded me many times.
I wonder, what was the inspiration of this poem? (hehe)

Sometimes dreams can be better than reality! Your poem captures the effect of poetry so well; loved the last stanza.

Yes, quite a lovely dream, Ms. deVine. I've often dreamed of similar things..this evoked a lot of emotion in me. Excellent work.

Well done Poet..
Could certainly relate..Are we permitted to believe that dreams do come true??

For every person there is someone out there.
Sometimes it just takes a little bit longer
then some would like it to.
