We all know that tobacco kills.
We know it makes us deathly sick.
We know that its purveyors
Will stoop to any trick
To keep their sales soaring.
We know all this and more without
A single solitary
Intimation of a doubt.
For years the proof has mounted,
Growing higher than Mt. Hood.
In every town, the ravages
Of the weed are understood,
And yet the fittest and the richest--
Models, athletes, movie stars--
Consider it tre chic
To chew upon and puff cigars.

yes, how ironic! But then what is there to understand about the 'rich & famous'! I guess they think it makes them look like part of the elite - a higher (and just as misguided) version of school yard cool. Great way of writing this into a poem.

It's not so chic
To be an addic'
But I'm one too.

Welcome to the forums, Dom ...i see you chose a controversial topic for your first submission...bound to get many replies

i am a cigarette smoker and always will be, in my brother's opinion, it's a sort of subconscious self-destructivenss...some climb mountains or jump out of planes, i smoke

PS: have you been to "The Alley" lately and cast your vote for "on a roll"?

put me in line behind the smokers. Yup, me too. (i think it's an oral fixation) hehe
But seriously, it's the only time I take a deep breath! I know I should quit, but I never seem to do anything I "should".

(sigh)

Good write! I don't smoke either but have some friends who do and some who don't. They respect my space however and don't smoke indoors when I'm around. Smoking is a dying institution though. Of this I have no doubt.

Have to admit I also am one of the guilty! That which I do, I wish I did not. That which I do not, wish I did!
It's one of those things, easier said than done. And how can you take a deep breath there redwriter1? hehe, I guess that is the only time we do, see how much more you can get in those lungs!

It made want to take a puff, it's only been eight days since my last cigg and I am dying for one. I am trying desperately to quit. Nice post though, can't wait to read more.
