She was a quiet little girl,
not by her will
but by her life.
Life as she knew it.
A life of screaming,
fighting,
hate,
and fear.
Being told to shut up,
go away,
stay away.
Now she's even quietter.
Her words never heard,
her life never questioned.
She passed through society
unnoticed, uncared for.
They never missed her.
They never helped her.
Now the only thing she hears
is the silence of
dirt on her grave.

ouch!!.. Boy, that stings!.. (not an insult) but the truth often drives people away, ever notice that?.

Did you happen to read my post called "the arms never came".. it's very similar.

Yes, we are on the same wavelength, now and for a lifetime it seems.

yours truly,

I think we're on the same wavelength because we're loving parents...who CARE for ALL children. I'm going to go hunt down your poem now...actually, I'm going to search all of your poems. I've loved every one I've read so far!

That's very sweet of you to say Carolina.
We all need a little encouragement now and then, especially when we write about things most people would really not hear about.

That's the hard part. Writing it in a way, they won't be offended or hurt. (geesh I sound like i'm trying to be politically correct hahah) me? never..!!..

Just trying to walk that thin line between truth and what people are willing to hear.
Seems to get thinner all the time but I keep trying.

You keep trying to, ok?

p.s. I know that little girl. I think you know her too.

I have a problem with that fine line...I'm always crossing it! Someone has to, though. I read about children being abused every day. I used to be a pediatric nurse, so I've seen more than I could handle. You can never do enough...no matter what...whatever you do just doesn't seem to be enough. Sometimes turning your head or deafing your ears is the easier thing to do... Children are our future.

I don't suppose you ever read the poem about the starfish?

if not.. it goes something like...

A man was walking along a beach and there were hundreds of stranded starfish.. drying in the sun, waiting to die. And he was methodically picking them up, one by one and tossing them back into the sea.

A man approached and said to him. "are you crazy!!, You can't possibly toss all those starfish back into the sea. What you're doing can't possibly make a difference"

To which the man replied as he tossed another one into the waves "it mattered to THAT ONE!"

My favorite poem of ALL TIME...

No you can't save them all, you can't DO everything, but if you don't do SOMETHING who will? Any maybe that one little starfish you cared for, will make it through and survive because YOU didn't give up.

And it does make a difference.. trust me.
You just don't know about it. But like it says somewhere in the bible (not religious, sorry) When you do a good deed, if you tell everyone, it doesn't count. It only counts if you DON'T tell. Only you know the good you have done and God knows. Try to find some comfort in that. I know I do.

It would hurt to see a child like this. I have been around kids who live with foster parents, and I can understand a little bit of this, if not everything.
