The Birthday Card
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I chose a card to send to you
I stood there held it in my hand
And read the words aloud inside
"A Birthday Wish For My Best Friend"
I had so much more to say
But couldn't say it any way
Like how I miss you oh so much
Your gentle smile and tender touch
The days we laughed, the times we'd cry
I wonder if you hear me sigh
Now you hold another's hand
That thought is more than I can stand
We had our chance together
Those days were never ending
So many promises
Which one of us was just pretending
I can't find a way
To tell you all of this
So I'll simply send my birthday wish
And sign it
With a single kiss
The verse inside is short and sweet
The sort of thing that best friends say
I'll seal it carefully with love
And send it on it's way
If you knew how much I feel
My bond with you so strong, so real
Would your heart still beat with mine
Or am I merely beating time
If I thought for just one minute..
...No, I see no future in it
Will we ever live again?
Could we be lovers, not just friends?
We had our chance together
Those days were never ending
So many promises
One of us was not pretending
I can't find a way
To tell you all of this
So I'll simply send my birthday wish
And sign it
With a single kiss
Err.. my birthday is coming up.. (grin)
I really enjoyed reading this. I re-read it several times actually. Very well put together and thought out.
Great job once again Graham!
Ack! Graham, you're giving me goosebumps...were you peeking over my shoulder at the card store today? Your poem hit far closer to home than I care to admit. Loved it!
This poem in its entirety would make an excellent card.
You believe my first e-mail yet, graham?
Graham.....Your card was really good....I think you and I should both go to work for Hallmark...ya think?....Just think of all the people that would be looking for that Hallmark thinggie on the back of our cards?...We could come up with all kinds of creative stuff....Like; "For my birthday I want you to take off my blouse, take off my skirt, take off my bra and panties...........
and promise never to wear them again!
Or howa-bout;
I didn't bring a present,
I hope you understand,
But poetry I've got plenty of,
And my money is in demand,
So have a happy birthday,
And here's a thought for you to keep,
Choose some friends along the way,
Who aren't so broke and cheap!
graham: Hallmark cards aren't this good! *G*
Toerag: ROFLMAO! Until you the poets here get their own card company started, can I buy the blank cards, give you a list of my friends and have you write their birthday cards? LOL
