(Inspired by an old film with Charles Boyer
Resolved in my mind with words rather than paint
Due to my failure to finish the painting
Because of an acquaintance seductively lounging
In my studio, causing me to err, irreparably in acrylics)

Old Turk fortress, then a rebel's haven
Safe until she lured me into the streets

A cell of my own making
Full of secret passageways
And rooms of the unlawful
With tempting outer exits
Where handcuffs or bullets
Wait to greet my freedom

I was fine; just planning my next move
Until she incidentally came in
For some excitement from the other side

The beginning of the end
Started when my eyes met hers
All my satisfaction disappeared
I was trapped in her aura
When she left, part of me left with her
And never returned

I roamed the Casbah's long halls
And rooms of undesirables
To try to forget my half empty heart

She returned and left, too many times
kidnapping pieces of my mind
With conversations and casual touch

When the whim would strike
She would come again
Then leave me longing for her return

She hasn't returned like I knew she would
Tomorrow I will find my death or her
