The working life is not for me
Those long, hard days are done.
I lie around in bed all day
And have a bit of fun.

My friends call me a lazy bum
(They do it with a smile)
They laugh and joke and give me pokes
'Cause that's their friendly style.

I lie around and watch tv
Do crossword puzzles, too.
Sometimes I hit the internet
And talk to folks like you.

My woman takes good care of me.
She always keeps me fed.
When I awake, she is so kind
To serve me right in bed.

She does my laundry, tells me jokes,
Shows me that she cares,
And, even at my smallest whim,
I'll always find her there.

She doesn't know the whole thing, though.
I feel like a cad
And know for sure if she found out
She'd feel pretty bad.

Whenever she is not around
Another takes her place.
Just one is not enough for me.
My head hangs in disgrace.

But what the hell! The easy life
Is now the way for me.
I know now how those people feel
Who win the lottery.

My life is rather simple now
And so it's gonna stay.
My future will continue smooth
Until my dying day.

So come on down and see me.
Finding me's not hard.
Just turn left at Intensive Care
And come down to my ward.

For a while there I really thought you were "living the life of Riley"; that is, until I got to the end! Great twist there. I enjoyed this one, as I have all others of yours.

Hey Bigroach,

This two-timin' Lazy Bum, William Bendix, over here has too much free time on his hands.... Let's put him to work...
Call in the Big Boys, Mac.... We'll fix him up in no time at all, here.

Excellent as usual, Balladeer! Is there a trend in what you're writing now? Or am I seeing things? (like bugs running on the screen)

You're so good. You really had me going. I was feeling pretty jealous of your life of ease. You're always entertaining. Thank you so much.

A life in bed with good food (bologna and chips), good women (at least 5) and, most importantly, good TV (nothin but Kotter, Kotter, Kotter) is truly the life.

To bad hospitalization had to come into it.

Nice job Balladeer.

I too have the life of Riley,
Strapped down to this bed,
Little pills that make me smiley
Electric shocks that clear my head.

I too get fed in bed,
My "ladies" are all sweet
Sometimes they let me color,
Or help them fold the sheets.

But I'll be okay someday,
The doctors say it's so,
When I quit making obscene calls,
Upon the telephone...

But panting hard-not talking,
Is so much fun indeed-
It's not as though I'm "stalking"
Just "conveying" what I need!

I've been there, it's not as much fun as it sounds. Incredibly good poem, though.

Poetic little ditties
He gives to every nurse
With 'Deer, even a bedpan
Inspires another verse!

But I'm still tryin' to figure
Where Toe's to be found
I'll give him something to pant about
His joy will then abound!!

Great job, guys!! *G*

At the nursing home
Balladeer stayed
his wife found out
that he strayed.

Little poems he did rhyme
telling jokes, killing time.
Liked to golf, no holes in one
telling poems with a pun.

All the ladies in fine fetter
enjoyed deer’s jokes to the letter.
His wife? She’s a real go getter
traded Balladeer in for one better.
