Daddy, daddy! Please come quick!
Mommy fell down and she looks real sick!
She was going to the door daddy, to get the mail
But then she grabbed her heart and her face got pale
I asked her what's wrong, but she couldn't speak
And then she fell down cause her knees got weak
She won't move daddy, she's laying so still
No daddy, this morning I didn't see her take her pill
Don't be upset daddy, it'll be alright
She's just taking a nap, she didn't sleep well last night
That's right daddy, go call 911
Do I get to ride an ambulence? Oh how fun!
I do? Oh good. Are they on their way?
Hey daddy, while we're waiting, want to come and play?
How come you have to be with mom? I'm sure she'll be okay
Daddy, she's only sleeping, she's just real tired today
I hear sirens daddy! Look outside! Here they are!
I see lots of men in white jackets coming out of that hospital car!
Hello mister! And you too, sir. How are you today?
Dont' snap at me daddy! Why do I have to get out of the way?
Oh please be careful sir, when you carry my mom on that cot
I don't want you to hurt her 'cause I love her a whole whole lot
Daddy can I ride in the back with mom? She needs my company
And when she wakes up I really want to be the first thing she sees
I can? I can? Oh yay! This will be the best!
Sorry daddy, I'll get on in, I don't mean to be a pest
Hey daddy? I'm going to talk to mommy, just in case she's really awake
I'll talk to her while we're on our way; you know, just for her sake
Hey mommy? It's me, your little girl. i'm the one here holding your hand.
Oh, you don't want to talk right now? That's okay, I understand.
Look daddy we're already here! oh I think I've been here once before
Daddy that time was really scary, I don't want to go in any more
Fine, daddy, I'll come along, if you say I must
I really want to see my mommy, but, well, it's just...
Okay daddy, I'll sit here, I promise I'll be good
I want to see mommy when she's better, so I'll do as I know I should
But daddy why do we have to wait here in this stupid waiting room?
I don't like the way it feels in here, it's so full of scary gloom!
Look daddy here's the doctor! Why does he look so sad?
What's he saying, daddy? What is it that's so bad?
Of course mommy's coming back! Can I see her, by the way?
She's dead? What do you mean daddy? What a funny thing to say...
How come I can't see her daddy? Please, I want to know why!
I want to tell her "get better!" Oh daddy, please don't cry!
Daddy, I don't believe the doctor, or anything he said
Mommy's got to come back to me, I promise, she's not dead
Ok daddy, I won't talk any more. I'm sorry, I'll leave you alone
I'll just sit over here and wait for mommy, cause daddy, I want to go home...

Thanks... I kinda got misty-eyed while writing it! I had to go and scrounge around my house for something funny to relieve me of the mood this poem put me in! This one's a little too depressing even for my taste, I won't be writing like this for a while now. I've gotten it out of my system and now it'll be a substantial amount of time before I can do it again!

Emmy...

Was that based on experience?

No, thank goodness. I have not experienced the loss of a parent yet. But I know friends who have and this was an outpouring of the grief I feel for them. I'm lucky enough to have both parents alive and well. But my prayers go out to those who are not as fortunate.

I hope I haven't frightened everyone in this forum into thinking I'm spiraling into a deep pit of depressing despair or anything! I only write like this occasionally when the mood strikes. It's a good time to vent. I'll try to come up with something a bit happier for my next post!

Thank you all... I didn't think I'd get this many responses! Perhaps I should have mood swings more often!

A tear-jerker it is. Very well done! Most excellent poem I just loved it. Though it was so sad. Reminds me of that song...Last kiss. That one is sad too. Maybe this should be made into a song as well.
