Beneath the shadows that dance beneath the sun,
Dana hid in fear of man’s cruelty.
She had been given the gift of the healing one...
She never guessed it would bring her such brutality.

It began with just a simple touch.
Dana laid her hands on a man and restored his health.
And the townsfolk thanked her oh, so much.
This brought to her much needed wealth.

Day after day, they came to her, needing her magic.
And she would touch them till she heard hearts beat strong.
They depended on her to mend all sicknesses tragic.
And Dana began to feel that she, at last, did belong.

And then came a horrible day when the thunder rolled...
This time there was pain that she could not heal.
The townsfolk eyes turned bitter cold....
They were at once blinded to what was real.

Lies were tossed in to the air with casual injustice,
baiting hooks for all to believe what was not.
Dana hid inside the shadows waiting for the truth to surface.
But, to her misfortune, no truth was sought.

“A Witch!” they cried as they bound her down tight.
“Send her to Satan before she rues the hive!”
As they bound her to the stake, Dana fought with her might.
And unmercifully, they burned her alive.

A real moral to this tale. People will adore you when you can help them then attack you when you can't. It happens all too often and you described it very well.

I really liked this!! Such a true tale, and a sad one. Humans can be so cruel when one fails when they are needed...great job!

"Beware those who come with hands ever outstretched ..."

Think I read that somewhere, its far too clever for me to have come up with it on my own ...

Good poem, sad truth. Well done.
