I didn't ask you to love me
nor did I want you to
I wanted to be left to myself
to live my life in my head
vicariously through another
not facing up to the realities
and truths and sadness inside my heart

I turned you away at my door
shut it hard and furiously in your face
though your blue eyes left me so haunted and torn
so I shouted and cried, until I could scream no more
and there you stood, proud and tall, waiting
never faltering in your love, or wavering in your devotion

while my love slowly formed, unfolding to your light
weak and suckling on your mother-love
like a newborn kitten, eyes closed to the world
still I cling to you, your shoulders broad and strong
bearing my despair and my fallings down
and everytime I feel myself fading I look up
there you are, waiting, safe in the surety of my love
as I find my direction through the dark maze of my reality
to the flame in my heart that is you

Wonderful, this is a great piece. Learning to love is a hard lesson..
