Out of the Ashes

Charred ashes lay in a pile
where once were burning embers.
Dreams are discarded in the soot,
buried amidst hurt and shame.
What is left after the fire is gone,
and nothing else remains?
Only me, lost and alone,
a little worse for wear,
tattered and torn,
but still intact.
I pick myself up again;
brush away the soot and grime.
Out of the ashes comes life;
and I have been resurrected.

Very sad, but powerful. It takes great strength to pick oneself back up again, you show this admirably. Thank you for sharing it.

Great imagery! I had the picture in my head of a person morphing out of a pile of ashes! For so few words, this is incredibly full of vivid color!

When my soul is worn and battered
And my dreams all torn and tattered
These brave words will give me courage
I, like you, will go on fighting,
Seeking solace in my writing.

But your soul burns anew
Like the phoenix of old
For all to witness
Brilliant and bold
