Mist entwines
with the darkness
forming a blanket
covering an island
kept away from the eye
of men
protecting the great
creature that roams there.
The morning dew
sheds a skin
onto the trees
and the jagged rocks
glittering in the sun.
Gusts of wind
blow eastward
rustling the grass
cooling the hot air,
and the creature awakes.
It's long snout
breathes in
the hazy air
tickling it's nostrils
as it fills it's lungs
bulging it's diamond plated chest.
Opening it's ember eyes,
it gazes around
at it's foggy surroundings
of the pitch black cave.
Rystling it's wings
it stretches it's broad wings
stretches
like a ship's sails unfurling
ready for a day on the sea.
It slowly
pulls itself from the ground
wobbly from it's sleep
and walks towards the opening
up on the cliffs
over the open sea.
The great dragon
cranes
it's metallic plated neck
jagged bones
streaking along
it's deep silver skin
to it's diamond studded tail.
A sea gull soars above
quickly
the dragon
heaves balls of flame
cooking the bird
feathers withering
sqauking
and twirling to the ground.
The dragon
with it's huge thick legs
hops over
picking up the carcass
between it's sharp claws
drops it into his
gaping mouth
and feeds.
Knowledge
has filled it's small brain
with survival
from the outer world
from the beings called men.
It blinks
wondering why
they fear
and harm it's kind.
Flames burn
in it's eyes
it's anger
overwhelming
overbearing.
Yet it stops
for it is the last
and it is safe
from the outer world.
Opening it's wings
it jumps from it's home
and soars into the sky
feeling the air
cool it's warm skin
as it glides through
the thick clouds
and wonders
if peace will
ever come between
it and the outer world.

( I put this one together off the top of my head. I was asked to write a poem of a dragon from JP, so here you go bud. I hope it won't disappoint.)

Hi there, Jocular - I understand that you're a young writer - You seem to have an innate sense of good imagery - Keep writing - You're doing a fine job....

I think this one really needs to be sent back up to the top of the pile. I discovered this one while searching through some posts of latter days and I think it deserves some more looking at. Well done!!! A great poem about a misunderstood creature of the same world and yet a whole different one. Wonderful imagery. Back to the top it goes!!!
