I am a man!
I cannot see;
I cannot speak;
I cannot hear!
And I am no less a man than you!
Yet, I am mimicked, laughed at, called names and ridiculed;
By you.....the so called.....Perfect Men!
Ridicule, mock, laugh if you will.
Though I cannot see with eyes,
Still I see.
I see with the mind's eye.
Through this I see visions you could not ever hope to see.
Visions of such beauty that they cannot be described with mere words.
You see with eyes.
I see with the mind!
No, I cannot speak with voice,
But still I speak.
Not with voice, but with expressions, movement and heart.
You speak with voice,
I speak with the heart!
Yes, it be so I cannot hear.
Hear that is by your standards of hearing.
I hear no evil from the world around,
For I do not hear with ears.
I hear with the soul and the way I feel.
I hear the voice of God.
You hear with ears,
I hear with the soul!
You ridicule for you do not understand.
You think that because I cannot see, speak or hear;
That I cannot live life to the fullest.
This, my friend, is where you are wrong.
It is you see, because of this that I live a more fulfilling life
Perhaps, than even you!
I do not see with eyes,
Therefore I cannot see the cruelty that exists today.
And I do not speak with voice,
Therefore I cannot speak evil against my fellowman.
And I do not hear with ears,
Therefore I cannot hear the mocking laughter that fills the air.
Yet, because I see with the mind,
I can see no man is perfect.
And because I speak with the heart,
I am able to express my true feelings.
And because I hear with the soul,
I can hear the child who calls out in the night.
And when not one man will reach out to that child,
I'll be there to comfort him.
And when no man will speak to him or tell him stories.
I will speak to him with my heart and hands,
I will tell him wonderful stories.
Yes, and when no man shall see his tears,
I shall see them and dry them away;
I shall ease his pain.
I believe God gave me a gift,
When he refused me sight, speech and hearing.
Mock if you will, but remember this; and keep in mind.
Though you ridicule me for my handicaps,
One day you may find that God has refused you one of these senses.
Or perhaps, if not you then, one of your children.
So I beg you, please!
See not only with eyes, but also with the mind!
And speak not only with voice, but also with the heart!
And hear not only with ears, but also with the soul!
And then perhaps, my friend,
Perhaps your life will be far more rewarding than mine!
