I sat with a man while he turned out his soul
As he told of his feelings inside
I cried as I listened to all of his pain
As I, traveled back down that lane

His heart was as big as the ocean blue
With good will that could conquer the tides
A forgiveness he holds like none ever knew
Yet for himself, he keeps none inside

Such shame he carry's, such weight he bares
This man that sits in the chair

As all of his weakness he reveals,
all of his past life despairs
Of his loves, his losses, his boyhood fears
feelings, he has kept deep inside
I listened and cried and offered some words,
but the man, he could not hear
So I sat as he told of all of his woe's
I sat, as I lent him my ear
This man that sits in the chair

I have been in the dark of night,
I too, have sat in that chair
I have the pit inside of my soul,
that holds the dark and despair

But he could not see it through my eyes,
his soul was glowing gray
This was his time to unravel his life,
time to find, his way

I hope that our talk has lightened his weight,
and he makes the choices he needs
I wish for his heart the passion of love,
wish for all his happiness shared
I wish the soul could be set free for
This man that sits in the chair

I am thankful for all he intrusted in me,
maybe one day he'll know
His soul will forever be with me inside,
his stories I'll hold to remember
For it was his love he showed, that day
A love so true and tender,
a love that warmed the ice inside
that caused my heart to surrender
To this man that sits in the chair
