My son comes up and asks me one day.
Can my friends father stay?
He seems to have no where to go.
The temperature is falling and it's
getting cold.

Wait a minute this is a forty year old
man.
I won't even touch this, go ask your dad.

Dad replies, the reason your friends father
has no home.
Is because he's always doing drugs.
He smashed their brand new van.
And for that he was thrown in the can.
His wife kicked him out because of the
abuse.
And she didn't have anything more to lose.
So no son he can't stay the night.
And were not going to sit here and argue
or fight.

My other son tells him you can sleep in
my car.
I'll give you some blankets, and if you need
anything more.
I won't be that far.

Now about that time Gods telling me.
This is not right you see.
I've always taught you to open the door.
Even if they were dirty, sick ,or poor.

But lord I'm torn.
I want to do the right thing.
We have a family here.
And drugs are really something we fear.
Besides it's not up to me.
I'm already feeling guilty don't you see.

So he stays the night in my sons car.
The next day he gets up and goes to the
bar.
After a few drinks,he's back at our door.

Please can I have two days more?
You can go downstairs to my sons door.
There's really no where else to sleep.
But on the floor.

So tonight and tommrow this is where he
will sleep.
Then he can go home to his wife and the
drugs that he keeps.

Tis a tough thing to do. The greatest thing we can do is pray for them. But not to enable them.
Great Job!

" I was hungry and you fed me..." Reaching out to someone like that is not always easy, but I believe your rewards will be many when the time comes.

Boy, I don't know about this one, Hoot. I've always considered myself one to help others, but only if they themselves are trying. Would I put my family in jeopardy over someone like that? Not a chance. Reminds me of that old song from the 50's called The Snake. Woman brings a frozen snake in the house, warms it, nurses it back to health, and it bites her. Last lines go:

"You know your bite is poisonous
And now I'm going to die."

"Oh, shut up, silly woman,"
Said that reptile with a grin.
"You knew darned well I was a snake
Before you brought me in."

I'd hate to see you on the front page some day.

Thank you for the replies. This is something
I am really struggling with.My head is
telling me one thing. But God is telling me
another thing. And I already have enough
guilt from agreeing with my husband about
the first night.
