Band of Gold

What powers did that band posess
That simple band of gold
To make me want to stay with you
In a love that had grown cold
To make me want to risk my life
To give you health and more
What was it about the ring that kept me
From walking out the door
Or did the ring mean something else
To keep me staying here
Or was it not the ring at all
But simply just my fear
I should have realized sooner
That a ring does not love make
That marriage should be compromise
Not one give all, the other take
And so I give you back your ring
As I walk out the door
For you see, It's just a band of gold
Just that and nothing more
