Sign said "Curves Ahead"
But you went straight
The light flashed red
But you wouldn't wait

The map pointed this way
But it's in the back seat
You blazed your own trail
And took a side street

"This Road Closed"
Dropping a gear
You moved on through
Without any fear

"Detour," turn right
But not for you
You made your own path
Something anew

When you get where you're going
Just let me know
I'll be right behind you
In a year or so

And if I get there
You can fill me in
On people you've seen
Places you've been

Of mysteries found
And journeys unreal
Escapades abound
A life of zeal

I'll await your word
And till that time
Keep following your heart
And I'll follow the signs

You have just spoken to almost every driver in South Florida! Andrew, after having read your work and even almost gotten to know your family through your poetry, I can say that your are definitely on the right road and in control of your vehicle. Happy travelings, friend.

That was cool! I know a person exactly like that. It's wise to follow the signs, but sometimes it's best to choose your own path. I like your poem Andrew!

Sir Balladeer: I've done my fair share of off roading, but now-a-days I pretty much keep to the beaten path. Parenthood's bumpy enough.

Cobra: Glad you liked it. When I started writing this I wasn't sure where I was going with it, but as it moved along I started thinking about one particular friend who's motto is "Sideways!"
This one pretty much fits him. For you Senor Swan.

Not even a traffic poem can escape inner truth! A soul on the highway of life! I liked this - but I'd like to know when this person is driving, I'm staying home that day!

Sometimes we find the greatest things in life by going off the beaten path and making our own trails...I enjoyed this one.

I relate...I'm a trail blazer myself...I always take the road less traveled. Good work

You leave for the weekend and look what happens... people read and respond. Thank you one and all for your kind words.
Poet deVine: the real scary part is the person I have in mind for this poem was a one time school bus driver.

See and years later someome pops in and responds again.  I love to color outside the lines  - but am not that brave when traveling.  Even so, I really like this poem - brave or not, it still spoke to me.
