"Pride should bow to humility."
Worthless advice, given free.
For, pride earned, from labor's task,
Allows belief that you don't lack
The gift to lift up your soul
Above selfdenial and control,
And bring yourself from darkest night,
Into the promise of daylight.

"Pride cometh soon before the fall."
A proverb familiar to us all.
But pride, earned, ignites the spark,
That drives us to deny the dark,
And reach out with extended hand,
To grasp hope, and perchance,
To lift another's heart to see,
That love bought with love is given free.

Pride is often laid to blame,
To hold us back from the flame,
That burns unslaked from deep within,
That illuminates where we've been,
Who we are, what we're giving,
Why we strive, how we're living,
Who we touch, and who we love,
And why we can never give enough.

So,

When you've reached in and brought out,
Your given talent, despite your doubt,
And touched the world around you there,
Giving hope and love within your sphere,
You've sung the song you were meant to play,
Uniting in harmony all that God made.

In a world burning to be free of pain...
You are the fire; your pride its flame.

Sir John,
Tapping the keys like it's no big deal,
A chilling parellel to how I feel,
My heart I think you do steal.

'Loon,

If I've stolen your heart from you,
I hope that isn't why you're "Blue."
And I hope, too, you realize,
Lil Lorelei will scratch out my eyes!

Thank you for your compliments - I need those because I am a mere man.

Hootessa

Thank you for your compliment. You must have missed a lot of my earliest work posted in here, which was serious, such as Seasons of Whispers, or the teary poem for romantic gardeners.

Cammie

Thank you for those very nice words - How do I do it? I do it the same way you can do it - I look inside, rummage around for awhile, think of the wonderful people I know, the mistakes I've made, and then I synthesize like crazy! Look inside your soul, where your poet yearns, and write, Cammie, write. Each poem teaches you how to be better. So teach, Cammie, teach. Each new idea enriches you and the world. So, pay me money, Cammie, money - lol. Well, you get the idea.

Little Kitty - if you tossed your pride out the window, then you just go right outside and bring it back in (tapping foot expectantly)... err, ahh, but before you do...

Now that you've tossed your pride away,
And have no more self respect,
Give me your address so that I may
Take advantage of your neglect.

Oh man.  I love this poem.  I love going back in time and reading poetry from those who were here and shared years ago.
