Sticks and stones will break my bones
...They call them crimes of hate,
Get the nigger, kill the fag,
...Never underestimate.

Did you hear the one about?
...He said with sheepish grin,
Did you turn and walk away,
...Or did you enter in?

A rock through neighbor's window,
...Some paint on synagogue,
What's the problem, childish pranks,
...And what's our epilogue?

The doctor speaks the dreaded word,
...Within you have a cancer.
Father holds a tearful child,
...He does not have an answer.

Children die, a nation mourns,
...Dixie cups and taper's flame,
Sing "Candles in the Wind."
...Absolve ourselves of blame.

Steal one's pride and dignity
...Ignore our prejudice,
Call it what it really is,
...A crime of cowardice.

Tim

Not bad - not bad at all. I liked some of your rhymes because they caught me unaware.

This is so well-spoken, and it really says something about the way the world is today.

Tim, your job may be getting to you! Sense-wise and structure-wise, this poem is very, very excellent......and, sadly, true.

They say you can judge a society by how they treat their elder and their pets. But those of which you have written as well.Nicely done.

i really liked the second stanza because it makes you think; when was the last time you "stepped in" and made a difference.
this poem had so much truth in it, and that is really sad.
however this is how society is (unless of course some one steps in and changes it).
excellent work and good luck in future writing!

This is quite exceptional, Tim - I'd hate to attempt to make a choice from among your works. They're all so profoundly poignant....
Not a single line lacks a point in this one - Please, please, please - Keep 'em coming
