The Dragon and the Maiden

Pretty maiden,
skin so fair,
with lengthy locks
of thick red hair,
met a dragon
late one night
with not another
soul in sight.
He looked the maiden
up and down.
She looked at him
and stood her ground.
She smiled with not
a bit of fear.
He spoke these words
she was to hear,
“Maiden fair,
sight to behold,
come with me
if you’re so bold.
Let my wings
wrap and enfold you;
in them tight,
I’ll safely hold you.
Let my breath
warm and excite you;
I promise dear,
I will not bite you!
Let my claws
run through your hair;
I beg of you
my maiden fair.”
She looked the dragon
in the eye
and to his words
she did reply,
Sheath your claws!
Unfold your wings!
Bind me not
With all these things!
Whisper not
with breath of fire;
but give to me
my hearts desire.”

OK, ya lil tease... then what happened???

perhaps the dragon responded with?...

I'll give to you
All you desire.
Hotdogs roasting
On an open fire.
Or perhaps some ribs
On a spit.
Let's see the menu.
Hey! You're it!

Please do write a sequel! I can't wait to see what happens next. Unless of course, you and Long John had the same idea?

Hootessa (that's THE formal title of a m'Lady Hoot - honest! I looked it up!)

Thank you for your sense of humor - it is terrific to be in here, to be able to banter with other poets, and for them to realize that I am not tearing down their work. Your laughter means a lot to me, because it means that, whatever your day may be, you could stand back and smile because I lifted you above it for a moment.

I do enjoy your work.

How much did that fat dragon weigh?
He tipped the scales yesterday!
He wouldn't hurt you - he's really tame
You remind him of a long-lost flame.

Long John, thank you, how sweet, and sometimes it does feel good to be able to laugh a bit. I thank you for your ccomments about my work...I enjoy yours also.

Balladeer....funny one, but I'm not sure how my sequel will go, I know one thing, the maiden does not become supper though...smiles
