Shadows of my Past

As I lay on my feather bed,
memories of my past swarm in my head.
I watch the shadows taking shapes,
a play of my life by the velvet drapes.

A baby girl with tears in her eyes,
a loving mother calms her cries.
A handsome father with a smile on his face,
holds his daughter close in a caring embrace.

A naughty young child by the cookie jar,
reaches for yum-yums but finds them too far.
Her mommy taps her foot in frustration,
dissapointed with her child's temptation.
The young girls says uh-oh and hides under the rug,
Her mama forgives her and gives her a hug.

A wild teenager partying late,
kissing and hugging her boyfriend and date.
Her parents are worried, tired, and upset,
they told her daughter 9:00, how could she forget?
Their daughter comes home, dizzy and drunk,
mumbling about the school's major hunk.
The teen is grounded for crossing the line,
her parents say o.k. but to listen next time.

Now a grown woman, I look at my life.
All the happiness and all the strife.
These memories go by, oh so fast,
while watching the shadows of my past.
