The small little man walks into the park.
And eyes the old man who is sitting in the
dark.

"Please kind sir can you do me a favor."
"I've been sitting here all day."
"By the way my name is Ray."
"Anyhow I need someone to deliver this
letter."
"I've mailed it before and it always comes
back return to sender."

"You see me and my daughter had a falling
out."
"And I believe if it was hand delivered from
a fine young man like you."
"You'd have more clout."

"What's in it for me?"
"The chance to meet a beautiful girl."
"By the way her name is Dee."

"Anyhow I'll pay you fifty dollars today."
"And I'm sure for you that will go a long
way."

"Okay."he says.
"Just tell me the way."

He cluthes the letter he's been asked to
deliver.
And approaches the building and looks thru
the door.
He open it up and steps onto the floor.
And what he sees touches him to the core.

There on the couch is what was once a
beautiful girl.
Bloody and beaten and up in a curl.
He looks away for he can't take it no more.
As he bolts right out of the door.

There is his home if he could just make it
there.
Maybe then he could get some fresh air.
He opens the door and puts on the lock.
And sits in his big chair just to think and
to rock.

After a while they take him away.
And put him in a cell to stay.

"It's your turn to see the judge."
"So please be courteous" as the man gives
him a nudge.

"So tell me what do you have to say today."
"Your honor I swear it wasn't me who done
this crime."
"I really don't think I should have to do
the time."
"And your honor I believe you have the
letter I was asked to deliver."

"My understanding is there is no Ray."
"He died twenty years ago today."
"And there is no Dee."
"She died when she was twenty three."
"In the very same way they say."

"And I don't know if you noticed."
"But the letter I have here is postmarked in
nineteen sixty nine."
"And while the circumstances of this case is
a little unusual at this point and time."

"We cannot overlook the facts."
"That the evidence against you is pretty
great."
"And you've shown me no other proof."
"So here lies your fate."

"Since you show no remorse."
"And for the girl who was beaten and stabbed
with a knife."
"I'm giving you fifty years to life."

You are all to kind.Sorry to say this is not
my best work.If I could just get over this
short little quirk.I found that I'm not good
at mysterious and humorous poems. So I think
I'll stick to what I know. But thank you for
all the kind replies.

Very very interesting - how long did it take you to piece this story together...the ending was such a surprise!! Very deep - I liked it...it certainly kept my attention!!

to laugh. I know it's long and thats why I
said it is not my best work.Believe it or
not only about two days.If you read some of
my other work you will know what I mean.
