No more guessing at the heavens,
I tire of this rolling wheel
of unexplainable nonsyncretism.
No longer willing to just accept
mentally or bodily, this strange
concept of disestablishmentarianism.
I can't question the motives of those
so fruitless in their attempts
to hinder with the strings
of such a miniscule lute
the actions of a country
well denied its very own culture
in an attempt to "socialize" it.
But I am quite spiritually disinclined
to step forward any longer against
these dark entities that stand
for "liberty and justice" for the people,
and hold a different form for themselves.
I will sit back in the shadows
and watch the warfare continue
and my friends be slaughtered
with handcuffs and a gavel
and postpone forever my own attempts
to be heard.

All day in the sun last night? What?!? That set aside, you put a poetic technique to good use in this poem: paradox. It kind of gives you something to think about. Thanks for sharing, Masked Intruder.

You are far, far too young to become cynical just yet, my friend. And any poet that can effectively squeeze "disestablishmentarianism" into his verse will be heard!

My Gods of earth, fire, soul, and rain. It is such a pleasure to see MI's name I know not where to begin!

Cynicism? Not quite your thing.... but a great attempt! Fabulous!

MI, my friend! This is a very interesting piece. I've read it through several times and get more out of it each time. It makes statements socially, politically, and emotionally. Good job. (Oh, and I agree with Ron about the usage of "disestablishmentarianism"... very cool, my'friend.... But why do youth and cynicism have to be exclusive... you have just as much right to be a cynic as any one of us...LOL... I believe a good dose of a cynical sardonic attitude can help keep things in perspective... congratulations for coming to the same conclusion so early in life... hehehe)

Hey, since when did I give you permission to be a cynic?

Hey, great poem. Probably one of the best I've seen out of you in a while. Keep writing you crazy raccoon, and I'll keep reading.

"On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
'Which we won't understand
Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
The turning away'" -- Gilmour

Cynicism wasn't exactly the first thing that came to me when I was writing this, but I guess it is pretty apparent. Thanks for everybody's responses.

Hey, GPB! Did you get a new book that I haven't seen yet? I like the quote.
