(In memory of my beloved Mother, as I knew her as a child)

'Hush love, hush'

Her voice soothes
Kisses my hair
My tears splashing
stinging the cut

'Come love, come'

Her hand holds
draws me to class
My eyes staring
Shaking in fear

'Rest love, rest'

Her touch whispers
calls dreams near
My eyes closing
sleeping so fast

.

And often now
when Lithium
and Other Drugs
are mentioned
when doctors stare
and she flees,
from them
me
and herself

I remember

Hair askew
nails bitten
wild eyes
and broken heart

I know the mother
still inside

Thanks. Bit of an emotional topic, but I'm hidden by my anonymity!

Severn,
I'm very surprised by this poem. Last night I wrote a similar poem about my mother, with exactly the same feelings. It's hard to loose a mother, but still have their body remaining intact. I understand all too well what it's like!

Brilliant poem, I too can relate to the misfortunes of your mother, your story is well captured.

I'm learning so quickly myself to cherish my own mother while she is still here with me...her health is failing fast and I'm so afraid of losing her too soon. Reading this reinforced my feelings for her...
