Unsettled

There is no calm before the storm.
Long before the silence is broken;
the clouds set in.
I find myself trembling in the darkness,
waiting for the first outburst.
Why must it always be this way?
I can shut my eyes to the lightning;
but the thunder still roars;
and my tears fall like rain.
Long after the storm has passed;
the effects remain.

( I post this poem because I am amazed at the talents displayed here...there is not a single poet here that has not written a better poem than this one and I think there are many of you that should get them out somewhere besides here. This poem is one of about 15 that I have published and also won the 1999 President's Recognition For Literary Excellence Award. I do not say this to brag, but only to show you all what you can do with a bit of determination. Good Luck!)

Delores,
My first suggestion is to pick up a book called The 1999 Poets Market or if you write short stories also, get The 1999 Writers Market. These books are published each year.
They give pointers on submitting along with many places to submit...I think this years Poets Market had over 1800 sites for submission.

Hoot, this is really wonderfully done, well deserving of an award. As far as many other poems here surpassing it....not a chance.

Balladeer....thank you, but I am not sure I am in agreement with that statement. I've have seen some of the stuff you have written and I take my hat(if I wore a hat that would be) off to the master.
