"Elvish Feast"

In the forest willowly with black creeks,
Bilbo and his dwarves doth tread
branches creak, the eyes watch inward;
their food drained, the water bottle dry,
hope lingers as spiders spin webs dizzy,
while midnight moon passes overhead unseen;
then the dwarves hear elves singing beyond
in the woods, and roasted mutton hangs,
tables overflowing with fruits,
as the high Elf-king sits laughing mirthly,
the logs set on fire vanish as they near -
covering them with complete darkness,
and the path left is lost,
no sun nor star to track, only leaf,
only hand to guide, only lantern to seek,
but deep in sleep Bilbo lies on the ground,
cuddled up for hobbit dreams;
the dwarves proceed lost, unable to find him,
then the laughter and music springs,
the smell flows unwavering in the damp air,
the feast of the Elf-king on his throne,
high air of arrogance, wise yet foolish,
as all dwarves are tied up and bound to prison;
the magic gate shuts and Elvish warriors stand guard.
Bilbo awakens, magical ring in pocket,
and sees the silver gate close, runes arching,
as the dwarves disappear from sight;
One weapon, one ring, one cloak -
to hide, to defend - from Elvish magic.

A good re-telling. I enjoyed it.

Thank you DE. That is what I like to do, retell tales out of fantasy books I read. For others who don't know, this is based on a story in The Hobbit, prelude to LOTR (Lord of the Rings)...

Great work. Really nice re-telling of a segment from one of my favorite books.
