Planning for the future

We spoke of a ranch in Montana.
We'd move there and start a new life
As soon as we saved enough money
to marry and be man and wife.

Then you worked so hard in the factory.
that you'd go home tired every day.
When we found we couldn't save money
We married, cause love finds a way.

We spoke of a farm up in Kansas
with wheat growing tall, up to here.
If we could just save enough money
perhaps we could move there next year.

We spoke of a whole lot of places
where we could just move and go on.
Though we never got out of Texas
where you are will always be home.

I liked this one considerably.

Thanks for the encouragement. Am I the only one who gets misty eyed while writing poetry?

I got misty eyed reading this poem! It's wonderful!!! And I do cry while writing sometimes, if the subject is touching or if the poem stinks!

Hmmmm...you're poem reminds me....I once read a sweet little poem somewhere....not sure who wrote it , but it too makes me think of home....

"Love warms the heart and brings a smile
And makes us feel that life's worthwhile."

Gee, I hope that wasn't on a wall plaque or something.(hee, hee) Still, makes you feel good.
Nice work! Thanks for the memory.

Reminds me of a Billy Joel tune "You're My Home," which I also like very much. My wife and I had plans to move to Washington State after getting married. Six years later, two kids and a house, we're still in So. Cal. No place I'd rather be.
