I am a soldier
I stand up high
Oh lord,to see
the way these poor
men died.
I look to the left
and then the right.
In the heat of the moment
I stand to fight.

I am a soldier
To see their pain
in such despair.
Oh lord,is there
anyway I can repair?

In this jungle
I was sent with a
gun and a rifle
in my defense.
To kill the enemy and do it right.
Should I turn and walk away
Or should I continue to fight?

I am a soldier
Oh lord, why am I here?
I can't do this anymore
I have to much to fear.

My friend lay's dying
His body ripped open.
He's crying out to me
a sad word spoken.

Please won't you tell them
I didn't die in vain. There
must be something in this war
to gain.

I am a soldier
My tears come slow with the
hurt I feel. I sit beside my
friend and kneel.

I say his last rites and close
his eyes.
In hopes that the lord will lift
his soul high.

I turn and walk away and fall to
my knees.
I scream to my lord, can you tell
me why please?

I am a soldier
I was sent to fight
Do you even think
that this was right?

In a far away land across the sea
A lonely young soldier is fighting for me
Giving his time and maybe his life
To give us a world that's free from all strife.
In return for this great task done,
The rewards can be stated quite simply as one,
Giving your time and maybe your life,
To give us a world that's free from all strife.

What a wonderful way to express the horror and unnessicity of war. I can't imagine that any soilder that has ever been in battle has not asked themselves this very same question.

There is nothing more senseless than war. Your poem dispays that very well.

Liked this one a lot. I wish I still had my other poem to share how soldiers must feel when they live through a war their entire lives. Like in other third world countries.
