Cover Up Girl

He kindly didn’t mention the fact that I was late
One look at me, he knew the reason
Let me take my time with the wardrobe change
On the biggest shoot of the season

The makeup girl saw me try not to wince
As she applied the foundation
Complementing me on my features
Paint applied with heavier application

They assured me I was beautiful
But I know air brushing was in store
I smiled, and laughed, did my best pout
And tried to give a little more

At the end of the day, when exhaustion was high
My photographer said to me
I was a trooper, I never complained
Alone in my misery

But as we finished, and he began to pack
I thought I heard him say
“If I ever see that beast with her,
I’ll be sure to make him pay”

Weeks later the results were in
You couldn’t even see
In the glamour photos we had done
On that day my husband beat me.
