Listening to every heart

0 posted 1999-07-15 02:46 PM

[To my Poetry-lovin' friends: I thought I had posted this, but I could not find it in a search. As I have had a chance to re-eat my humble pie, I thought I would share this [again] with you. Of course, any critique is welcome.]

Dear Lord

Lord, it is me, do hear my pleas
I did something so very wrong
But you caught me up before long
And brought me to my knees.

Dear Lord, humble is better, but
I had a great week.
Thank goodness for you
I turned the other cheek.

I thought of telling someone of the great
Things I accomplished today
But then I thought of what you create
And suddenly found I had nothing to say.

And when I do stray, and find a way
To exclaim “look at me”
Suddenly I find as I look around
It’s Humble Pie that I see.

You remind me in another’s glance
That my good works are not by chance
And I should know you watch from above
And give by your Grace, and from your Love

All that I do and give is a gift from you
And I know they are not my thoughts and deeds alone
So thank you Lord, for the Humble Pie
And know that for my works I will atone.

Amen.

Sunshine, This is a wonderful prayer! We all need to take a bite of that humble pie, and remember from time to time that we have gotten where we are not by ourselves, but with the grace of those willing to help us take the journey, and the guidance of One we do not see, but can't quite forget. Well written, I enjoyed this!

Dear Azblond and Blueloon

Thank you for your comments. We all need a kick in the butt now and then, don't we? We're only as good as HE will allow us to be...and he allows SOOO much goodness!
