Once I claimed her mine
But she's missing now
No, I didn't lose her
She was stolen, that's how

I went off to play
And when I came back
Emptiness I met
Like the color black

I searched in vain
I scoured the ground
A solitary link
Was all that I found

Cut through, snipped in two
At a loss I did stand
Proof of what I once had
The ring in my hand

Man! She was a great ride
None other like her's
Custom built lines
Electric chrome features

She took me places
Others would not go
Freedom was her call
We never went slow

But now it's over
Gone to someone new
Hope he treats her well
I bid you a fond adieu

To you who took her
Damn! Who ever you are
She belonged to me
And to walk is too far

Ms. Elvira: Thanks for noticing this one. If you think about it, this poem does have somewhat of a sad lost love theme.

Anyone care to guess what was stolen?
How about the perpetrator?

I must take a stab at this one... A bike is what was stolen, or at least that is what read through...I enjoyed the bounce in this one, sad but light.

Definitely a bike, I think. Well-spoken.

Not much of a brain teaser as to what was stolen. Blueloon & Balladeer, you win the prize. Ahhh... but the question remains. Who was the thief? Consider the bike as a symbol for something else, as well as the next to last stanza where a vague hint lies.

Andrew, I must reply for you have left me wondering who the damn theif is... After reading that stanza over and over I have to guess that the bike was stolen eihter on an airplane or boat? The more I read it over the more ideas I have!

Within this poem, the bicycle is a symbol of youth. The thief was "time" or "old age," for youth has "gone to someone new."

thanks for pointing out the underlying meaning Andrew, the bike i spotted while reading the first time, yet not the deeper meaning, after re-reading the poem it seems even better
