Smoked my last cigarette
last night
coughed up
all the words
that I wanted to speak,
wrote them down
in my head,
and remained silent
until the morning came.
Ashes,
I long to listen
for you speak my heart
and you are
the unknown relief
from this lie
that i have relived
over and over
since my last cigarette.
----------------------------------

thank you for all your words... they have been my escape

This is very good. Ignoring the fact that this was for me..hehe. But seriously, I want to print this one for my collection. It reminds me of my "They Should Invent Smokeless Cigarettes" poem. I liked the part "wrote them down / in my head, / and remained silent / until the morning came."
Tres bien ma cherie.

P.S. I found the Beaudelaire poem, and am translating it. I like it so far.

You know I'm going to sound like the biggest hypocrite in the world because I am struggling with my own addiction right now but if you decide to smoke your last cigarette...hats off to you!!! I guess this poem could've been seen in two different ways but while writting it I thought of only one. Ashes in french means De la cendre and this poem was written for Alain Delacendres because I enjoy his poetry so much. But I guess this could be about quiting smoking too.

And Alain... I would be honnored that you keep it for your collection...

Oh and send me the translated poem and the french version of Beaudelaire and I could maybe help...

Thanks to all for the nice comments...

Having been an avid smoker for more years than i'm willing to admit, i can relate...i would say that after you've stopped the hardest thing is getting over the nakedness you feel without that little smoking stick between your fingers...loved the poem...
