Listening to every heart

If I could but a special recorder find
And hide it in the recesses of my mind
I would not have to put my fingers to key
For there within would exist the very soul of me…

Wrapped around and in the tape so deep
Even while laying prone and in blessed sleep
It would record all the thoughts ever present
Of what could be, or what I meant.

It would uncover the dreams not spoken
And bring light to those places darkened
What I do not even hasten to explain
To my lover and friend, it’s not the same.

Those words that ramble through my mind
Do not pass these lips of mine.
For fear places in me such a dread
My innermost thoughts, erased from my head.

I do not think I would like a recorder in my head for some things......some things are nice to remember, but others are better forgotten.

Ah, someone finally found this one. You are right, Genea, we wouldn't want a tape recorder to be in our brain. But with scientific advancements as they are today, it IS a scary thought, isn't it? Especially about "having things erased."
