Bobby and Sarah

“Hold me close, Bobby” Sarah whispered in his ear
He didn’t understand what was causing all this fear
Sarah never seemed to want to be taken home
He dropped her off at night, and watched as away she’d roam

Bobby loved his Sarah more than anything in his life
But already she was begging for him to make her his wife
He’d never met her parents in the two years they’d gone steady
Anytime he asked her why, she’d say she wasn’t ready

He felt they were too young to make marriage plans
But it was getting hard to not give in to Sarah’s trembling demands
Many times she’d ask him “let’s just run away”
Home was someplace Sarah never seemed to want to stay

He had to admit he’d seen the bruises and welts on Sarah’s milky skin
When asked what happened she always seemed to turn the subject to him
Then came the day when Bobby did see Sarah no more
The reason that it happened—it seems no one is sure

Sarah died at home one night from a concussion to her head
It seems two days had passed before anyone knew she was dead
Her parents were investigated for the violent crime
It seems they were the cause of Sarah’s death before her time

Bobby’s world was wrecked, how could he not have known
Of all the awful things that happened inside Sarah’s home
The truth is something most of us simply don’t want to hear
A child abused at home often won’t tell simply out of fear.

You tell a story that is to ofter real. So many suffer in silence and fear, while those of us on the outside refuse to question because we don't want to really know the ugly truth. Well done. Keep your voice true and strong.
