The Steamy Desert

Cursed darkness it enwraps me now
And I know not how to flee
I came here to escape so long ago
And now it won’t let me be

I sheltered myself inside the shell
Safe from a world gone mad
I turned within instead of for help
And gave up all I had

The cold cruel world, she broke my heart
Time and time before I came
She chewed me up and spat me out
She never cared my name

I crawled within myself to hide
To wait the pain away
Funny thing is I grew used to the night
And now I’ve lost the day

I’ve memories of a sunny sky
A lover with lips cherry red
I’d speak once more aloud again
If I remembered what should be said

But no words they come that would make sense
Of a useless gnarled old man
Instead pass by me in the darkness of night
And thrust change into my hand.

Let my words fall first upon deaf ears before a closed mind...
