Sleep Tight

“Sleep tight my darling with dreams of me”
She whispered softly in his ear
She slipped away in the night
And left behind all she held dear

The morning sun awoke him from slumber sweet
And he reached to feel her near
Reality blazed across his mind
He’d awaken to his darkest fear

He struggled to make sense of what she’d done
Of why she’d gone away
Then remembered quickly what he must do
He began to prepare for his day

He showered and dressed as quickly he could
And in haste made way to his car
Still lingering in his mind the wish and the kisses
They’d shared beneath the first star

Their love was an old one, a true one at that
Two soul mates who never let go
And he struggled to think if he’d said aloud
What he thought she should already know

He stood in the church as the bride walked up
And searched to see her sweet face
The memory of all they had shared
His heart could not erase

The words spoke aloud in the ceremony sweet
Were lost upon his ears
All he could hear were the words she had said
He thought he remembered tears

The vows now recited, the bride and the groom
Walked with smiles down the aisle
The woman in back slipped away silently
For her it was the final mile

She dried her tears and slipped a card
Beneath the piles of presents from friends
“To the Groom” the card read “Sleep tight, sweet dreams”
And this is how it does end.

On this one Elvira has once agin done a wonderul job of digging up an old one...Plenty of stories, alot of them buried somewhere in the far pages here, the others still waiting to be put in verse. Don't worry they are coming...(I've accepted late night writing as my curse!!)
