Hyde Park, 4AM

Time stands still in the English heart.
It beats,
Then rests
In collective breath,
And dew springs from the Earth
Like mortal tears.

***a little background on this one. In September of 98, I was in London on the weekend of Princess Diana's funeral. We were staying within walking distance of Hyde Park, where the funeral procession began. That morning (at 4 am), unable to sleep, my friends and I walked to Hyde Park and were completely mesmerized by the sight of nearly 100 thousand people, genuinely mourning someone they loved. It was unlike anything America has experienced since the death of JFK...The lines came to me as we walked through the sea of mournful eyes...

Amen. And woo-hoo...

While I don't always find your poetry personally pleasing, I do find that you are
one of the poets I always read... I find you works stimulating and interesting...
this one I liked...

Thank you for your kind words. I also take it as a compliment that you don't always find my poetry personally pleasing. I don't believe that it is the exclusive function of poetry to exalt and uplift. Art should disturb as well as calm. Thank you again for your response.
