Shot rang out
... where you stand
At your feet
... a fallen man
Run for cover
... leave him there
Blood stained street
... not your affair

Shot rang out
... on these streets of hell
Missed the target
... another child fell
Baby boy
... his mother cries
Six years old
... to young to die

Born to a world of life and death
Brother's hatred bought his dying breath
Shotgun victim of a violent crime
Little child never saw the good times

Civil war goin' down in the hood
Fight for life never understood
Little soldiers think it's just for fun
Thirteen years, and he's earned his gun...

------------------
does anybody know
does anybody care
what are the words
we're attempting to share

Sirens at all hours, gunshots from drive-bys, drug deals on the corner, such are the pleasures of where I live,I see this firsthand and I'm glad you've chose to write about it.

A very thought provoking poem, thank you for sharing it. The plight of the inner cities is a problem which has long been neglected.
