If a promise be broken
then does it become a lie?
If a promise kept,
does it cause your heart to fly?
Give me no promises
your heart cannot keep.
Ask not that I pray for death
when I close my eyes to sleep.
Give me truth above all else
hard facts are what I need.
Promise not that you'll stay
for if you leave,
my soul will bleed.

Mine heart doth sing with thoughts divine
When touched by beauty of her rhyme
I feel within each wonderous line
The heart and soul of Ms. deVine.

Thank you all...I am sitting here at work, in a mire of problems and stress, feeling overworked, overwhelmed and underappreciated. Then I read your responses and my work life seems so unimportant. Thank you!

Poet,

This is one of your best. It is well written and strong and, as always, very lyrical.

This brings back memories and opens old wounds, too ignored to heal. Perhaps now they will.
