movie tickets hidden in books
a wildflower you held for me
scattered emails
between us
these are the things I have of you
the physical ones that prove your occupancy in my life
but where do I put the things that have no shape?
Your smile as you look at me- a flash
corner of the eye mischief
the meals we've shared
sitting across from each other
the phone calls- just to hear your voice
the friendship that continues to grow...

I never knew how wide my heart was
until I started filling it with you.

Those memories can really getcha, can't they? I especially liked the last two lines of this poem, Christina.

I really like this one! Its so sweet. And so true as well...those memories of things you have no little tokens for are the best things in life sometimes....

Wow, this is me... let's see i have the pin he wore on prom night...the top hat he wore at a wedding... movie tickets that are so faded that the only thing left is the date i'd jot down in magic marker... a box of rose petals and even some of the ashes from his letters which i set aflame when we broke up... (sigh)

the best line of all..."I never knew how wide my heart was until I started filling it with you." says it all. Thanks for sharing.

And I thought: this is how poetry is born. It comes from invisible heights, it is secret and dark in its origins, solitary and fragrant, and like the river it will assimilate whatever falls in its current; it will seek a route between the mountains, and its crystalline song will ripple through the meadows."- Pablo Neruda

Christina,

My exgirlfriend, who is one of my closest friends would really feel this poem. While I was in bootcamp I wrote her like every other day. Before I left I would go by her house at like 2 a.m. and leave a rose on her stearing wheel or a little note. Well after six months we broke up and she got mad at me. She gave her box of memories to my best friend to give to me. I didn't want it so I told him to do whatever he felt like doing with it. He threw it away. To this day she kicks herself for getting rid of that box. We both cherish all those memories even though we are just friends and will only be that. That was a special time for her and I.

Thanx for reminding me of her and the special relationship i have with her and bringing back all those memories. It is always nice to walk down memory lane.
