A star shines over Phoenix
And over Washington.
Another shines on Texas-
There's another! Oregon.

Virginia has a shining star
Oklahoma City, too.
Florida and Canada
Have bright stars in full view.

Tallahassee, Mississippi,
Light the evening sky.
The star above Ohio puts
A twinkle in my eye.

Over Michigan, a special star
And, farther north...my God!
I see the brilliance shining
From the star above Cape Cod.

All across this nation and, indeed,
All across this earth
Bright comet trails signify
Our poets giving birth.

Thank you, stars, for your bright light
And your illumination.
You make the world a brighter place
Through your determination.

Please know that I do love you all
For what you really are
And, anytime I need a friend,
I'll wish upon a star............

Well thought out and well written...but

Baladeer I would like to draw your attention
to someone you inadvertently failed to mention
Amidst all the magnificent stars that you see
I heard not a word of the black hole that’s me

Craig..If you're referring to a "Black Hole" that sucks everything in due to its own design, then I agree. You are a black hole because you suck us in everytime you post one of your brilliant works.

Thank you, Nan, for noticing my little asteroid.

And, MuseFaire, that's because you ARE special!!

Balladeer,

Well that's a real nice thing to say
You sorta brought a tear
If you're ever passing through this way
Please stop, we'll have a beer

I beleive that you have magic
flowing through your veins.
It pumps through your heart,
and channels to your brain.
Then through your fingertips
the words are generated,
that show your talent to us all.

Though you don't write of reindeer pie
or oysters on parade
I've come to love your written words; the talent you've displayed

But talent alone does not explain the stir which you create
Your courage to say and your open heart - thats what makes you great

Excuse me sir, don't mean to interrupt
I believe you missed a star as you looked up
I may be little up in the night
but i'm really quite a sight
I sit above a state you did not say
guess i'll have to send you my beaming ray
You better look now...above Arkansas
I'm the one yelling, "Over here ya'll!"

Twinkle, twinkle over Kansas
I guess you just don't like my stanzas
so should I let this diminish my light
or was our Balladeer just not bright?

He failed to cover many others
and I know he can write longer verses
shall we give him another try?
or should he suffer from many curses?

(Couldn't help myself...this was left wide open for a little satire)

Poetwheel....thank you very, very much. Oysters on parade. Why didn't I think of that?

Carman..There are so many states I missed
And that sticks in my craw.
I know I didn't Tennessee
But now I Arkansas!

Sunshine..You'll have to try harder than that
To make me feel dumb.
If you don't tell me, how should I know
Where the heck you're from?

I should have guessed, though. Yep, you're right.
I guess I was quite dumb.
Your attitude does well exude
Jayhawkian aplomb!

I thank you all. If poetry can't be fun, then what's a meta for?

Ah Balladeer I hold you near
to my loving heart just now,
knowing that you can take a beating
and leave with a knightly bow.

You are so bold as to take hold
of wit, humor and cheer
so keep it up, my kindly sir
that we may speak kinder of Balladeer.

[And I'm glad to know you're a sports fan as well - or just a history buff in disguise.]

You know, I wasn't going to respond to another of your poems tonight (at the risk of sounding like a groupie ~ grins) ... but you charmed me with this one.  It's really fun to read and it made me smile -- I think that there are many 'stars' on these pages ... it's a pleasure to watch the shimmering of words.

Right you are, Aziza. There ARE many stars on these pages. Over the years new galaxies have been created, some have gone supernova, some have left comet trails and we even have a dwarf star called Toerag. Thank you for  enjoying and being a part of our milky way.
