the innocence of a child
is the most precious of all.
but, it's lost much too soon
causing our hopes to fall.
the belief in good ol' saint nick
is stolen by drunks on the street,
and the reality of our world
is inevitable to meet.
we realize the ones we love
will someday die,
and everything we knew to be true
is revealed as a lie.
in the eyes of a child
everything is just what it seems.
rainbows lead to gold
and roads lead to dreams.
with age comes a renewed hope
that every once in a blue moon,
a child will be born
whose innocence is not lost so soon.
