Meditation Two

William Haskins

Nights rise and fall
Like her sleeping breast
When the moon is a candle of secrets;
Time is the pause
That occurs between breaths
When the quiet mind conjures its demons.

All righty, Haskins...
I've read this a couple of times now.. For a poem of only six lines, I count, in order:
1) personification, 2) simile, 3) metaphor, 4) metaphor, 5) personification, and 6) yet another personification... So, you couldn't fit much more imagery into this one if you tried...
WELCOME ABOARD, my poetic friend... I can't wait for the encore!!!

Thank you. I am interested in the compression of language; conveying a thought or evoking an image in as few words as possible. I believe that there is a metaphorical parallel between the compression of atoms and the compression of language-- both have the potential to release enormous energy...
