Who were you then,
that girl who would not take no for an answer
who were you then,
that girl
who could throw a mean fast-ball,
never feeling sorry for knocking a guy off the plate.....
and who was I?
the one who sat watching you,
always stuck in a book
but still in awe of your skill,
and your thirst for life.
Remember that time I painted your nails?
a violet red-
so feminine and dark
it looked so out of place on you
that you threw the bottle into the air,
with all the grace your arm could give you.
And I knew that we were different,
I knew that we always would be.

But who were you then?
Who was I?
Just two little girls.
Each trying to grow up
the best way they could.
And now as I sit,
writing down the words of my life
I wonder how you are
and what you are doing.
Recognizing the spirit you had
as one I had wanted myself.
I wonder how that pitching arm is,
if by now it's nails are covered
in a shade of violet red-
so feminine and dark.
It always looked so out of place on you....
it always looked just right on me.

Christina, this is wonderful! It is so easy to relate to. How many times do our minds wander back to those we once knew and wonder what became of them? You put it together masterfully. Nice job.

*blush* why thank you balladeer

A poem about my cousin- we were like sisters when I grew up, this my attempt to immortalize her spirit.

Christina,
I agree with Balladeer. You've done a wonderful job of remembering her in a way that makes us all wonder how she's doing. Great job.
