Ever Here

"Oh where is my true love?"
Into the night she cried.
I am ever here, my love,
For you longing, but denied.

"Oh, where are lips to kiss,
And hands for me to hold?"
I am ever here, my love,
Left standing in the cold.

"Oh, when will I ever find a man,
Whom I can trust with my heart?"
I am ever here, my love,
So near, yet so far apart.

"Oh, when will a lover come along,
And relieve me of this pain?"
I am ever here, my love,
But offering my heart in vain.

In secret I yet adore you,
But to you I am only a friend.
Yet by your side I ever shall be,
Ever here, my love, 'til the end.

Is this about you? Or just a creative genius?
Passion for another like this is beautiful.
Best wishes and good luck.
I hope she loves you for the beauty with which you write.

Pookie:

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I am the narrator of the poem. I'm in the unfortunate position of being in love with a girl who only wants to be friends. We are best friends, in fact, and we see each other often, and I can only hope that someday something stronger will flourish. By the way, I liked your poem very much too!

Very good, very good indeed. I think there are quite a few of us who can relate to these words. Some hope for the future I will offer. In high school I was in love with a girl who already had a steady boyfriend, so I had to settle for just being friends. In time we both moved on and lost track of each other. I ran into her eight years later, both of us still single. We've been married for six years now. Sometimes it just takes a while. Never give up.

Very good. I'm experiencing those troubles right now with a girl whom I've been in love with for about 5 years. I don't know how she really feels inside, and I don't know if I'll ever find out. But thank you, the poem was very insightful and moving. Keep it up!

I have a very dear friend that is not the 'love of my life' but I'm more comfortable with him than with anyone. I dread the day he falls in love for then, I'll be standing on the outside of their relationship. Though the situation is not the same as yours, I have a word of advice...lovers may come and go, but true friendship is forever!

great poem Jeff... it may very well be the story of my life- I have a knack for meeting great guys who only want to be my friend (always the bridesmaid, never the bride!) and currently find myself enamoured and smitten and crushed and all the other adjectives associated with longing so I can definitely identify! Thank you for reminding me that this happens to others as well.
