One day while I was walking
I spotted a rose bush
By the side of an abandoned home
Choked by weeds and grass
The leaves were wilting
The single bud undersized
Never to bloom if left untended
I knelt by that rose bush and wondered
How someone could let something
So beautiful come to such a state
I pulled the weeds and grass away
And gently dug around the base
I worked it loose from the dry soil
Some of the roots were damaged
But I knew they would heal in time
I cradled that rose bush in my arms
And carried it home with me
I found a spot that got plenty of sunlight
I watered and fed that rose bush
Until its leaves became green again
The stalk thickened and the bud grew
Each day I turned my thoughts and attention
To that lonely rose bush I found
And was rewarded one day
When the bud started to open up
Each day I cared for that rose
Until it finally opened all the way
It was the most precious
And beautiful flower I had ever seen
All it needed was someone to care for it
You, my love, are a rose....

For Kari, the love of my life

This is more like it. A beautiful poem and great tribute to love declared. In other words, YOU DE MAN!

A lovely thing indeed- giving to another- watching them grow and become even more beautiful than you imagined. How wonderful to read a poem about happiness and nurture- instead of sadness and tears. Bravo.

Yet another masterpiece that I have missed-awesome job, sea_of_okc. It reminded me of one of my friends (every time I think of a rose, I think of her). Thank you.
