"There's no more coming back this way-
the path is overgrown and strewn with thorns.."
Sarah Mclachlan

Poem of Intent

I took a bath at 6am
and my heart floated away
getting lost in the thickets of my hair
the water warm around me
swallowing me whole
my mind turning to ruthless things:

a stolen moment in time
so precious it tilts the balance
of all things that have come before
and
all things
that will come again-
opportunities lost
just out of grasp it hurts to reach for it
but still, you fight and grab at the air,
only to come back
slapped in the face for trying.

Later;
and further under the blanket of water
I offer up my heart to you
even as it floats away-
I'll take the thorns
and the roses that you release
and promise always to forgive you
and always to remember-
I am the one who let my heart float away
I am the one who is ruthless with feeling.

(For Eugene and every other unrequieted love
I've had the pleasure to long for....)

in the dark, reaching for you...whoever you are
and are you ready?"

This is one of the more unique poems that i've read in a while. A different way of showing that your guard was let down, which isn't always a bad thing. I've never read a more true verse than the following: "opportunities lost
just out of grasp it hurts to reach for it
but still, you fight and grab at the air,
only to come back
slapped in the face for trying"

Sometimes our efforts are given in vain yet we still have that one shred of hope that things will work out...I guess thats what we call faith

Well thank you #5 (can I call you 5?heh)
it really is an odd little beast masquerading as a poem, isn't it? Believe it or not I actually did write it in the early hours..fresh from an AM bath... my heart and mind heavy from a night of little or no sleep...and everything just seemed clear to me in that moment. I gave the person it was meant for an out- realizing that it was my heart doing all the floating away.
It's still a little bit hard to take.
